Toronto FC have made use of their No. 1 position in the Allocation Order to sign centreback Omar Gonzalez.

Toronto acquired the No. 1 Allocation Order spot in a deal with FC Cincinnati that included the trade of Nick Hagglund in January.

Gonzalez last played for Mexico’s Club Atlas while on loan from CF Pachucha. He will officially join the Toronto FC on July 9th with the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window.

“He is a great competitor that will approach every training session and match with a high level of intensity. He’ll also be able to add a greater presence in the air for us, both offensively and defensively.” Said Toronto General Manager Ali Curtis.

Gonzalez has a wealth of experience in the MLS having won the MLS Cup three times with LA Galaxy. He was named in the MLS Best XI four times while with the Californian club and continued his impressive performances in Liga MX when he joined Pachucha in 2016.
