The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) have today announced the appointment of Akira Nishino, 64, as their new head coach. The Japanese manager takes charge of a Thai national team that has been without a permanent figurehead since January.
Interim manager Sirisak Yodyardthai has been relieved of his temporary position.
Nishino is most famous for his stint as manager of the Japanese national team during their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign where they finished 2nd in their group but succumbed to Belgium in the round of 16.
Nishino’s sights will be set firmly on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the qualifiers set to begin in September of this year.
The veteran manager has had a long career in football having played for Gamba Osaka and Vissel Kobe before taking up coaching.
